What time should I get there?
We worship at 11:00 am
Am I going to be conspicuous? Given that
we are a smaller, family style church (you can expect 75 to 100
people in worship) you wont be conspicuous, but you will probably
be noticed and greeted by some of the warm people we have here at
Genoa.
WE WILL CERTAINLY NOT ASK YOU TO STAND,
RAISE YOUR HAND OR INTRODUCE YOURSELF! We recognize that there is
a fine line between not wanting to be embarrassed and not wanting
to feel like nobody cares that you are there. We will care, but
wont make you feel like a sore thumb.
How do I behave in worship? We have a user
friendly traditional type service with a casual and relaxed approach.
While we do sing hymns and read prayers together, you wont
feel uncomfortable as the words arent a secret ritual that
you have to learn, they are printed right in your bulletin. Our Contemporary
service is very relaxed with a positive, upbeat feel, with no formal
rituals. On the first Sunday of each month we have our communion
service. Anybody is welcome to come forward (no matter what your
religious background or non-background is) to share in this very
special meal in which we actively are reminded how much God loves
us.
Will I be expected to give money? If you
visit with us we want you to know that we will not be asking you
for money. In fact when it comes time for the offering, we will
ask you to let the plate go right past and not put anything in!
As a visitor we would like this experience to be our gift to you.
How should I dress? Our dress is casual (if
that is what you are comfortable in) or more dressy if you like
to go to go to church in your Sunday best. During the summer you
will notice that our choir does not wear robes, and our preacher
wears khakis and an open necked shirt. At other times both the choir
and preacher wear robes, but dont let that stop you from dressing
comfortably, but appropriately.
Are our children welcome? Yes! If you want
to put your pre-school child in the nursery you are welcome. Older
children can stay in the service and are invited up for the interactive
childrens sermon. They can then join the other children as
they go to childrens church or can return to sit with you.
Should I bring a cushion in case the service
goes on forever? No! Our service usually lasts about an hour.
On the first Sunday of each month we have a communion service which
may add about 15 minutes to the service.
Choir and Special Music
If you would like to share your gift of voice
or music in our worship, our choir meets at 7:00pm on Thursday
in the sanctuary for rehearsal. You are welcome simply
to show up, or click here
to ask any further questions.
